Cat facts
A pair of breeding cats and their offspring can theoretically produce up to 420,000 cats over a 7 year period, according to the Humane Society of the United States. This overpopulation problem carries a hefty price tag statewide, with millions of dollars being spent by animal control and shelters for cat related expenses. An actual cost for animal control to catch, house and ultimately euthanize a cat is more than $100. We are working towards reducing the number of unnecessary births significantly in our area by spaying and neutering every cat that we rescue. Applying only a fraction of the above statistics to our current population of 108 cats, it is easy to see that we have prevented the birth of thousands of stray cats and saved the community thousand of dollars. By providing this much needed service, we are positively affecting the overall health and welfare of our community and of our environment.
Millions of unwanted and homeless cats are born in our country each year….it’s estimated that over 3,500 kittens are born in the U.S.A. Every Hour! On average nationally, a little over every 3 seconds of every day around the clock and around the country, a kitten or cat may be euthanized solely because they were born into a world that already has millions of stray, abandoned or unwanted cats. That’s millions of cats and kittens euthanized each year.
